SMTP Authentication (SMTP AUTH) improves the trust between a customer’s mail exchange server and Sentinel Messaging to eliminate the risk of spoofing. This feature simply creates an SMTP AUTH username and password pair in Sentinel Messaging that customers can enter on their email exchange server to authenticate with Sentinel Messaging.
SMTP Authentication in Sentinel Messaging
- Log In To Sentinel Messaging
Begin by logging into Sentinel Messaging as an Administrator.
- Navigate to the ‘Domains‘ page

*Tip: Copy/save this Username – you will need it later when you enter these credentials in your email exchange and you will not be able to access this screen again after saving.
- Generate A Password
Click Generate and Sentinel Messaging will generate a random compliant password. Alternatively, you may create your own password in text box.
*Tip: Copy/save this Password – you will need it later when you enter these credentials in your email exchange and you will not be able to access this screen again after saving.
- Save
Click Save to save the SMTP AUTH credentials.
Note: Please wait 30 minutes to start Step 8. It may take up to 30 minutes for the credentials to propagate through Sentinel Messaging.
You will see the following Success Notification: ‘The credential has been added. New credentials will propagate within half an hour’.
